With base Height:68cm(26.77in)This gilt wood head of Guanyin Bodhisattva dates to the Tang Dynasty. Made of wood with gilded finish, its gold layer is mottled and worn, with natural craquelure on the wood surface, exuding a profound, elegant sense of antiquity. Guanyin has a plump, full face with gently closed, downcast eyes and soft, flowing brow lines, presenting a serene, gentle demeanor that embodies grace and compassion. Her high coiled chignon is engraved with layers of fine string-like hair patterns in neat, smooth arrangement, with traces of ancient pigments remaining on the hair ornaments. A classic form of Tang Dynasty wooden Buddhist sculpture, it symbolizes merciful protection, peaceful well-being and enduring blessings.
