Crafted in gilt bronze, its gilded surface bears mottled wear and a rich, elegant aged patina. Maitreya has a plump, round face with a cheerful smiling expression and a prominent rounded belly, clad in a wide-sleeved monk robe with flowing, dynamic folds. He holds prayer beads in his right hand and gently lifts the hem of his robe with his left, assuming a relaxed and free posture. The base is carved with swirling cloud patterns and auspicious beasts, full and solid in form. A classic subject of Ming Buddhist sculpture, it symbolizes constant joy, wealth and blessings, and auspicious well-being.
