Description
Height:65cm(25.59in)This painted stone seated statue of Sakyamuni Buddha dates to the Northern Qi Dynasty. Carved from bluestone, its painted pigments are mottled and faded, with remaining traces of ancient vermilion and mineral green, exuding a profound archaic texture from long-term weathering. The Buddha sits in lotus position on an upturned lotus throne, with a high ushnisha and fine, neat spiral hair patterns. He has a plump and gentle face with slightly curved eyes and a soft smile, presenting a serene and compassionate demeanor. Clad in a one-shoulder monk robe with concise and flowing folds arranged in rhythmic layers, his right hand is raised in abhaya mudra to relieve sentient beings from suffering, while his left hand holds a ritual implement signifying perfect blessings and wisdom. The lotus throne with full, sturdy petals is carved in a simple and grand style. As a classic form of Northern Qi Buddhist sculpture, it symbolizes the protection of Buddha’s light, dispelling misfortune and attracting blessings, and peaceful well-being.
