L:1500cm (590.55in) W:68cm (26.77in)This fine-line heavy-color historical figure long scroll on silk dates to the Ming Dynasty, with original pale yellow patterned silk mounting and floral woven ribbon tie.Inscribed signature: Painted by Qiu Shifu of Wumen, in the second spring of the Wuxu year of the Jiajing reign.The frontispiece bears large regular script title Wen Ji Returns to Han on red silk covered with interlocking flower patterns, plus imperial palace collection seals.The scroll fully depicts the whole journey of Cai Wenji traveling back to the Han Dynasty from the Xiongnu territory, segmented with withered border trees, mountain ridges, honor guards, cavalry, nomadic attendants and Wen Ji??s carriage procession. Figures, costumes, banners and saddles are rendered with delicate neat linework and soft elegant pigments, representative of the Wumen court fine-painting style.Extended poetic colophons themed on this story by Ming literati including Wang Shizhen and Xu Wei are attached at the end, with complete clear provenance
