Description
L:23.5cm H:36.5cm This painted pottery equestrian warrior figurine of Tang Dynasty is molded separately from clay then assembled, integrated with square base, decorated with red, yellow and green mineral pigments.The warrior wears a topknot and full beard, bare-chested with only a colored battle skirt around waist. His arms feature tough muscular carving; one fist raises forward while the other grips a short blade horizontally, presenting a fierce valiant bearing full of Tang martial spirit. The whole horse is coated with large area of ochre red paint, with plain uncolored muzzle and lower limbs, and saddle decorated with alternating yellow and green patterns, boasting robust full body.Equestrian warrior figurines of this type are high-grade Tang tomb retinue burial wares, representing elite cavalry guards of the deceased, reflecting the powerful military strength and grand aesthetic of prosperous Tang. Distinct layered mineral painting and realistic carving of muscles, weapons and horse harness make it a core artifact for researching Tang military imagery and painted pottery sculpture art.
