Description
H:22.5cm W:14.2cm This is an imperial blue-and-white plum vase of Ming Dynasty, with tiny mouth, short neck, broad shoulder, tapering belly and shallow ring foot; a carved metal lid was later fitted to the mouth. Covered with glossy white glaze, the whole body is fully painted with cobalt blue sea waves and a fierce dragon winding through the surging water. The dragon??s scales and claws are rendered with powerful sharp lines, the cobalt pigment presents rich vivid blue with distinct iron rust spots. Dragon symbolizes supreme imperial power, while endless waves stand for everlasting realm. Plum vases were royal high-grade vessels for wine storage and hall display
