Circa 1940–1960 German 400-Day Torsion Pendulum Mantel Clock (also known as an Anniversary Clock).It is a classic representative of the clockmaking industry in Germany’s Black Forest region. Adopting a torsion pendulum instead of a conventional pendulum, four spherical black weights rotate slowly around the central shaft. Its extremely long oscillation cycle greatly reduces energy consumption. Fully wound once, the clock can run continuously for approximately 400 days, hence the name Anniversary Clock.Fitted with levelling adjustment screws at the base, the timepiece must be kept perfectly horizontal to operate accurately.Originally invented in 1880 by German clockmaker Anton Harder, this design features a classic glass dome cover that fully protects the internal mechanical movement while showcasing its intricate mechanical beauty. The main frame is crafted of gilt brass; the supporting columns and pendulum balls are finished in black lacquer accented with brass highlights. The elegant black-and-gold colour scheme exudes solemnity and opulence.Well-preserved overall, with natural age-related patina that further enhances its timeless charm.
