Consisting of one cup and one matching saucer, both pieces are adorned with hand-painted gilded scrolling foliage, high-relief gilded roses and soft pink floral motifs. Boasting sumptuous colours and ornate moulded decoration, the set is perfectly suited for tea and coffee appreciation.The Manufacture Nationale de SEvres originated as the national ceramic workshop established in the Château de Vincennes on the outskirts of Paris in 1740, founded by Marquis Jean-Henri-Louis Orry de Fulvy, a minister under Louis XV.In 1753, it was officially designated the Royal SEvres Porcelain Manufactory and adopted the iconic interlaced double-L hallmark. The intertwined letters “L” are the abbreviation of Louis, initially representing Louis XV and later Louis XVI. The manufactory relocated permanently to SEvres in 1756.In 1759, Louis XV acquired the entire manufactory, establishing it as an official royal enterprise. He further decreed that no other porcelain factory in France was permitted to apply gilding to porcelain, granting SEvres exclusive rights to produce gilded porcelain. Its wares were reserved exclusively for the French royal family and nobility, making it the official royal porcelain factory of France.SEvres porcelain represents the pinnacle of European ceramic craftsmanship. Characterised by lavish Rococo polychrome painting, enriched with gilding and copper inlay techniques, its exquisitely crafted works embody the opulent and magnificent aesthetic distinctive of French royal art.Unlike other renowned European porcelain factories, SEvres primarily produced exclusively for royalty and the aristocracy, resulting in limited production and scarce surviving examples. To this day, the Manufacture Nationale de SEvres creates approximately 3,000 works annually. A portion is supplied to major state institutions including the Presidential Residence, Prime Minister’s Official Residence, National Assembly, Senate and major embassies, or presented as state diplomatic gifts. A small selection is offered to collectors, with very few pieces entering the open market.For this reason, SEvres porcelain has long been cherished by dignitaries, connoisseurs and museums worldwide, and remains one of the most sought-after premium European porcelain collectibles among discerning collectors.
