DIAMETER:4.2CM (1.65IN) WEIGHT:31G (0.07LB) PURE SILVER SQUARE-HOLE BUDDHIST OFFERING COIN OF NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY. THE OBVERSE CARRIES RUNNING SCRIPT "CHUN HUA YUAN BAO" HANDWRITTEN BY EMPEROR TAIZONG, FLUID AND ELEGANT. THE REVERSE FEATURES FINE RELIEF OF THREE MUDRA-SEATED BUDDHAS SET ON LOTUS AND CLOUD SCROLLS. THE SILVER SURFACE IS COVERED IN MELLOW AGED GRAY PATINA WITH SCATTERED BROWN OXIDATION SPOTS.CAST EXCLUSIVELY FOR ROYAL TEMPLE WORSHIP, SILVER CHUN HUA BUDDHA COINS WERE RARELY CIRCULATED AMONG COMMON PEOPLE, USED FOR TEMPLE OFFERINGS AND IMPERIAL REWARDS. FAR RARER THAN BRONZE VERSIONS, THEY INTEGRATE IMPERIAL CALLIGRAPHY, BUDDHIST STATUARY AND PRECIOUS METAL MATERIAL, A TOP-TIER TREASURE OF SONG DYNASTY COINAGE.
