D:3.9CM (1.54IN) WEIGHT:27G (0.06LB) THIS SILVER COIN WAS MINTED IN THE 18TH YEAR OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA (1929) AS A TRIAL PATTERN COIN FOR THE NATIONAL CURRENCY, PRODUCED BY THE TIANJIN MINT. THE OBVERSE FEATURES A BUST OF SUN YAT-SEN IN A WESTERN SUIT, WITH THE INSCRIPTION "REPUBLIC OF CHINA YEAR 18" ABOVE. THE REVERSE DEPICTS A GLOBE WITH THE NATIONALIST PARTY FLAG AND THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA FLAG CROSSED ABOVE IT, AND THE DENOMINATION "??" WITH THE ENGLISH "THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA" BELOW. WITH ONLY A HANDFUL OF EXAMPLES KNOWN TO SURVIVE, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS RARITIES IN MODERN CHINESE COINAGE.
