Carved from solid wood, it is decorated with lacquer, gilding and mineral pigments. The statue is depicted in a sitting posture, riding an auspicious beast (Diting/one-horned lion), wearing a Taoist crown with a kind face, and flowing robe carvings. Despite worn gilding, it retains an aura of Taoist immortality. Taiyi Jiuku Tianzun is a core deity in Taoism, revered for saving sentient beings and dispelling disasters. This work embodies the realistic style and exquisite wood carving craftsmanship of Ming-Qing Taoist statues, representing a classic form for traditional Taoist worship.
