Description
ENGLISH SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY – PORTRAIT OF A LADY IN A BLACK HAT.
Medium:?Miniature painting on ivory (or vellum), mounted in a gilt-bronze frame.
Dimensions:?3 1/8 x 2 1/2 in. (8 x 6.5 cm).
Description:
A finely detailed 19th-century portrait miniature depicting an elegant lady with blonde curled hair, wearing a voluminous black hat adorned with feathers, a black lace-trimmed coat, and a white cravat. The soft expression and pale complexion, contrasted by the dark attire, reflect the refined portraiture style of the late Georgian to early Victorian period. The painting is enclosed within a textured gilt-bronze frame, the reverse with a red textile backing and suspension loop, bearing a maker’s mark.
Condition:?Excellent overall; minor age-related wear to the fabric backing, painting well preserved with delicate color tones.
