Description

A museum-quality French vinaigrette pendant from the Napoleon III period, representing the pinnacle of 19th-century sentimental jewelry. The piece is masterfully crafted in 18K gold and silver, featuring intricate Rococo-style openwork scrolls of exceptional refinement.

The obverse is centered with a cabochon-cut emerald, approximately 6 carats, attributed to the Muzo mines of Colombia, surrounded by six old-cut diamonds arranged in a radiant star motif. The silver scrolling elements extend like naturalistic vines, enhancing the brilliance of the gemstones, while a finely sculpted bow-form suspension loop crowns the composition with elegance.

The reverse presents a richly detailed ??flower basket offering?? scene, composed of multi-colored gold flowers contrasted against silver scrolling foliage, demonstrating remarkable depth and complexity. The pendant opens to reveal an interior compartment, intended to hold a small memento or perfume-soaked sponge, characteristic of vinaigrettes and sentimental lockets of the period.

Accompanied by its original antique fitted box, this exceptional piece embodies the romance, technical mastery, and artistic sophistication of the Napoleon III era. A rare and highly collectible work, it holds significant artistic, historical, and connoisseurial value within the field of antique jewelry.
