SONG DYNASTY WOODCARVING OF THE FREE GUANYIN

H:62cm(24.41in) W:50cm(19.69in) This is a Song Dynasty wooden painted statue of Guanyin in a relaxed posture (Water-Moon Guanyin). Carved from solid wood, it is decorated with lacquer and mineral pigments. The statue is depicted in a relaxed semi-lotus position, wearing a crown with a miniature Buddha, adorned with beaded necklaces, with flowing robe carvings and a compassionate, serene expression. Despite worn lacquer and colors over a millennium, it retains the Zen charm and divine aura of Guanyin, representing a classic form of Guanyin worship in Song Dynasty Chinese Buddhism, embodying the realistic, vivid artistic style and exquisite craftsmanship of Song Dynasty wooden statues.
