A mother holds a baby in her arms, accompanied by relatives and friends who carry a baby basket on their head, play the accordion, carry gifts, and herd sheep. It is a vivid, lively, and warm genre painting depicting Roman social customs in the 19th century.Cesare Tiratelli, an Italian painter, was born in Rome, Italy in 1864 and passed away in Rome, Italy in 1933. He studied painting from an early age under his father, Aurelio Tiratelli, a 19th-century Italian painter of Roman landscapes and marble sculptor. Later, he graduated from the Accademia di San Luca (the predecessor of the world-renowned Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma). He was renowned for his oil paintings and watercolors of social genre scenes, with most of his works focusing on the lives of Roman nobles and common people, earning him the reputation of an "encyclopedic painter of Roman society". In 1906, he participated in the Milan Universal Exposition and won an award for his paintings. Most of his works are collected by the Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma, while a small number have been auctioned at major Italian auction houses and Christie’s in New York, USA, and thus entered the hands of private collectors.
