MING DYNASTY NANMU WU CAI SHEN ZHAO GONGMING

H:38cm(14.96in) W:34cm(13.39in) This is a Ming-Qing Dynasty wooden lacquered and gilded painted statue of Zhao Gongming (God of Wealth). Carved from solid wood, it is decorated with lacquer, gilding and mineral pigments. The statue is depicted in a sitting posture, riding a crouching tiger, wearing an official hat with a majestic face, and flowing robe carvings. Despite worn gilding, it retains an aura of prosperity. Zhao Gongming is the God of Wealth in Chinese folk belief, revered for attracting wealth and warding off evil. This work embodies the realistic style and exquisite wood carving craftsmanship of Ming-Qing folk statues, representing a classic form for traditional wealth worship.
